On September 15th 2018, a formal strike steel ceremony was held for COES’s new, 500m Diving Support Vessel (DSV), at Qingdao Wuchuan Construction Base. Senior representatives from COES, Wuchuan Heavy Industry, DNV-GL, CCS, CNOOC, Ocean Installer and other major equipment suppliers were in attendance at the ceremony to witness the official starting construction of this world-class vessel, which will be the most advanced DSV in China once delivered in 2020. 

COES’s Deputy Director General Jiang Yan, pointed out in his opening speech that one of the key reasons for selecting Wuchuan as the preferred builder of this world-class Vessel, was that the shipyard had already proven its capabilities through the successful delivery of Shen Qian Hao (SQH), which is a 300m saturation DSV, and has been in service for COES since 2012. SQH has participated in a series of key projects with high performance and has thus helped COES in increasing its reputation in the offshore Oil & Gas industry globally.

Introduction of Deep-Water DSV

The new DSV is a high-specification DP3 multi-purpose vessel for worldwide operations. The vessel will be able to perform rigid and flexible reel-pipe laying of up to 24” (flexible) and 18” (rigid) with a reel capacity of 4,000MT. Equipped with a heave compensated 400MT crane, with an auto tension control function, which allows it to work at a maximum depth of 3000m in water. It can provide 6000m depth ROV operation and 500m depth saturated diving operation, with its 24-man mobile diving system.

Once completed, the vessel will be, yet another valuable asset, adding to COES’s repertoire of strong fleet. COES will have the cutting-edge advantage in the execution of a complete range of offshore and subsea projects in the most challenging environments worldwide.
