‘Chuang Li’ on Open Sea Trials

On November 1st 2018, the COES’s newly built, 4500MT crane vessel “Chuang Li”, embarked on its first phase of open sea trials.

During the first day of the trials, a range of onboard equipment was tested, including; the main engine system, radio systems, communication and navigation systems, sounders, wind speed/direction indicators, high and low voltage switchboards, power grids, auxiliary equipment, and so forth.

In the morning, the compass of the vessel was tested and verified, along with the vessel’s anchoring capability. In the afternoon, the lifeboat boarding, landing and recycling tests were carried out. During the evening the navigation lights and radar blind spots were inspected and verified.


Milestones of ‘Chuang Li’:

  • December 3, 2015: Contract signed

  • June 15, 2016: Keel laying

  • November 2, 2017: The vessel was launched and trials begun

  • November 1, 2018: Open sea trials commenced

Introduction of ‘Chuang Li’

“Chuang Li” is a fully revolving, self-propelled crane vessel with an advanced DP-3 system and a 10-point spread mooring system. It has been granted permission to sail and provide service world-wide in the global market. It is equipped with a helicopter landing platform above its forecastle deck and a massive crane, with a lifting capacity of 4,500MT, is installed at the stern deck. The vessel’s deck loading capacity is 7,000MT when sailing at design draft with a design load of 10MT/m2. “Chuang Li” is capable of accommodating up to 399 people working on board at any given time. The vessel reserved the deck space for pipe laying(S-LAY) system, which can also expand to J-LAY or R-LAY for deep water installation and other functions in the future. ‘Chuang Li’ will be joining COES’s world-class fleet in early 2019 and will enhance COES’s offshore installation capability to a new, high level.
